frequently asked questions [aka faqs]...

1. [Why do I need a web site?]

Only you can decide that for yourself of course. However, many financial experts now agree that a web presence should be included in any serious business plan even if only as a simple "brochure" where potential clients, sponsors or other interested parties, will be able to find the basic details of your activity. Many more people are using internet these days as a point of reference, substituting the yellow pages and the telephone directory when they need to find information.

food for thought

We sincerely believe that internet is a useful tool for cutting down on the excessive use of paper in the production of marketing materials such as brochures and catalogues.

2. [Can I be sure of registering the domain name that I want for my web site?]

There is absolutely no guarantee that you will find exactly the domain name you want for registration. You only have to consider just how many millions of web pages there are on the net now to appreciate that finding exactly what you desire is a pretty tall order. An exception might be if you should decide to use your actual name for the web site address, but failing that, we advise you to choose several alternative names in the hope that at least one of them is still available for registration. For instance www.mywebsite.com might be available in several permutations such as www.my-website.com or www.my-web-site.com. And to make things as easy as possible for your potential users and the search engines to find, try to choose something which makes sense and is memorable - and clearly connects with your business where appropriate.

3. [How easy is it to book my preferred domain name?]

The usual procedure for checking on your preferred domain name, and then blocking it and registering it in your or your company's name, is quite a straightforward one which may vary slightly from one registrar or hosting service to another, and depend on which extension (eg. .com , .it, .net etc) you wish to have. Through our normal registration channels, providing the domain name is available and that you have all the necessary documentation at the time of registration, you will normally have the name registered from within 48 hours to a maximum of ten days.

4. [Can you sort out my domain name for me?]

When you decide to purchase one of our web site packages from us, the cost of your domain registry and hosting for the first year can be included. We are able to make the necessary arrangements to set up the domain name of your choice, registered in your name. At the end of one year from the date of registration, you will receive an e-mail reminder from your provider to renew the service directly with them. You can normally choose to pay your renewal by bank or post office transfer, or by credit card.

5. [What details are necessary to obtain a domain name?]

You will normally need to supply the following information:
Name
Surname
Date of Birth
Place of birth
Tax number
Address and country of permanent residence
Telephone number
Email

(Details may vary slightly according to your server)

6. [How expensive is it to register my domain name?]

The dot-com hosting we normally use and the annual registration fee for the domain cost approximately €35 to €50 per annum according to the basic package and optional extras such as antivirus and antispam, number of e-mail addresses and amount of web space that you choose to purchase. Please note that this amount does not cover any web site build or maintenance by ourselves but is only the annual fee for the registration and hosting. The exact sum due will be calculated at the time you book your site with us if you have not already made your own arrangements for this.

7. [Can I maintain my own web site?]

It is precisely with this end in mind that we occasionally set up a content management system (cms) web site for our clients. This type of web site is particularly easy to manage for someone who has no experience of coding of any kind, and incorporates a "user friendly" editing interface which is very similar to the better known "wysiwyg" text editor applications that most computer users are familiar with.

8. [Will it be possible to personalize my web site?]

When you purchase a web package from us which includes a web build, it will be possible to incorporate your design preferences into the final product by purchasing the personalization package addon. This can be achieved by making changes to an existing template, or by using your own digital content (eg.your logo) to create a customized template to your own colour styling specifications.

9. [Is it possible to purchase a template and make my own changes?]

Absolutely. We have created a number of very inexpensive HTML web templates which you can purchase through our site. They are all in clean standards' compliant code and each template package includes all that you will need to prepare the graphic and coded framework for your pages. You can then add your own image and text content using a text editor such as CoffeeCup HTML Editor.

Domain Name System aka DNS
Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier to remember. Open source
Open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials—typically, their source code. Some consider open source a philosophy, others consider it a pragmatic methodology. Before the term open source became widely adopted, developers and producers used a variety of phrases to describe the concept; open source gained hold with the rise of the Internet, and the attendant need for massive retooling of the computing source code.
